Greek Programs

I was probably the first person to write software for ancient Greek, in 1984. The programs have been extensively tested and are now available for Windows in a much extended form.

They are flexible, easy to use, and instantly available from a desktop icon. They can also be networked in a school environment, making them suitable for classroom use, homework and private study.

There are two main packages, one for GCSE and one for AS Level, with around forty programs covering vocabulary, noun endings and verb endings.

The vocabulary programs are designed to teach the full OCR GCSE or OCR AS vocabulary lists. Rather than relying on a simple alphabetical list, the vocabulary is organised into grammatical categories such as contracted verbs, adverbs, adjectives and noun types. This allows students to learn in a more focused and systematic way.

The programs include multiple-choice tests, typed Greek answers, repeated testing of mistakes, noun-ending practice, verb-ending tests, participles, infinitives, subjunctives and optatives. The AS package also includes a syntax tester, a first in Greek software production.

The programs include a pre-loaded Greek character set with breathings and iota subscript, and students can type in either Greek or English depending on the test.
